Rev. Bruce Lethbridge has been Pastor of Orcutt Presbyterian Church since October 1996. He is a graduate of Westmont College and Fuller Theological Seminary. He has a deep love for teaching the Scriptures and a passion for people coming to know the living God who is revealed to us in Jesus Christ.
"The love of God has reached out to the world in the gift of Jesus. We as his disciples are committed to growing more like him in thought, word, and action. My hope is that we can all discover that the church is not primarily a place you go, but rather the people we are, people who has been called by God's grace into a new life, and a new community. It is my privilege and joy to lead others into this discovery."
Israel Gonzales is a first generation Presbyterian minister and calls himself a "presbycostal" since he was raised in a bilingual Assemblies of God church, Centro Evangelistico in Oxnard, CA. He received his undergraduate degree in Church Ministry with an emphasis on Evangelism from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK where he met his lovely wife, Ada (aka Eunice), while she earned her degree in Christian Education. They were married in 1996, moved to California in 1997, and began raising a family. Ada is a medical social worker at Marian Hospital and received her MSW from Cal State Northridge in 2013.
Israel served as Youth Director at Wesminster Presbyterian Church where he was mentored by Rev. Dr. Tim Fearer and encouraged by the congregation to continue his Master of Divinity studies at Fuller Theological Seminary. Upon completion of his seminary studies in 2005, Israel became the designated pastor of New Covenant Presbyterian Church which later united with First Presbyterian Church under his leadership. He enjoyed serving as a catalyst for reconciliation and renewal even all the way through selling the property to the Salvation Army, setting aside the funds for new church development, and scattering to different congregations to strengthen them through service.
He has been serving as an Associate Pastor at OPC since February of 2012, and he loves to mentor college students, preach and teach the Scriptures, cook, and play chess. He also serves on the board for "Serve Santa Maria", the Santa Maria Valley Ministerial Association, and volunteers at juvenile hall through CareNet.
Commissioned Lay Pastor
Garry began his staff assignment at Orcutt Pres in February 2004. As an Elder, he completed the required educational and presbytery criteria for a Commissioned Lay Pastor in 2003. As a CLP, Garry's primary areas of responsibility are Pastoral Care and Office Administration though you may see him involved in almost any aspect of the church's ministry.
Garry was born in Arkansas and moved to California's Sacramento Valley in 1964. After graduation from Roseville High School (where he met his wife Sherry) and Sierra Jr. College, he completed his education at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He worked in Business Management for 31 years before his current staff assignment. He has lived in the Santa Maria Valley for over 35 years and can't think of a better place to sojourn. Married 42 years, his wife is Sherry (the Children’s Ministry Director) and those two grown children (Brian and Tracy) are his too.
Director of Children's Ministries
Growing up the oldest of four girls, Sherry earned first hand how to be a leader. After receiving a degree in Early Childhood Education, she took time out to raise a family, never dreaming the plans the Lord had for her. Sherry says, "Once Christ came into my life I never looked back."
As Director of Children's Ministries, she enjoys the challenging task of obtaining, training and retaining volunteers who love children and want them to develop a deep relationship with Jesus Christ. Her goal for Sunday school and all extra children's programs is to show the love of Christ and teach the Bible so that children learn how to have a real life-long relationship with Jesus.
She loves to cook, is married to Garry Grant, and they have 2 grown children and a grandson.
Emmett became the lead volunteer in December 2013 and our new Youth Director in March 2014. He is no stranger to the position since he has been a key volunteer youth worker at OPC for several years.
Emmett was raised in Illinois, attended Bible college, loves to play music, and has a passion for youth and their families. He teaches plenty of students how to play the drums, bass, and guitar. He is married to Hannah and has two sons: William and Kadence.
Cindy grew up in Santa Maria, and is the voice over the phone, the smile you see when you walk into the office, and the minister who prays and helps so many in our church and community. She has served in this position for over 10 years.
Chancel Choir Director
Meredith filled in as our interim choir director but we sooned realized that the "interim" part of her title needed to go! She is such a blessing to us as has re-energized the choir with her creativity, passion, and love for the Lord. You might also see her at Righetti High School where she works as a Guidance Secretary.
Organist and Accompanist
My earliest music memories are of hearing my father’s quartet practicing. “Daddy sang bass.” I began piano lessons at the age of 4 , and was playing the hymns for church by the age of 8; singing, accompanying choirs and other musicians from the age of 15. In college I took nursing, earning both BS and MS degrees; then teaching nursing as well as other positions in the health field. I have two children and three grandchildren.
Since retiring from nursing I have been an active musician as well as teaching piano for several years. In addition to music I have had a special interest and study in both natural health remedies and Bible prophecy. In late July of 2013 the Lord clearly directed my way to the position of organist at Orcutt Pres. Having grown up with church music I find playing for the Heritage service especially enjoyable. Thank you OPC for such a gracious welcome.
