Welcome, Musicians!

please follow these steps to get your device ready to stream live music via zoom!

If you're using the mobile app

(iPhone, ipad, android)

Click here if you're using zoom on a computer (pc/mac)

First, make sure your app is updated to at least version 4.6.10. If it's on an older version, then this won't work.

You can check the current version by opening the Zoom app and going to

Settings > About > Version.

STEP ONE:

Open the Zoom app and click on "Settings" in the lower right-hand corner.

STEP TWO:

Tap on "Meeting."

STEP THREE:

Scroll down until you find the option to "Use Original Sound," and toggle it on.

Once that's toggled on, you're ready to join the meeting; the rest of the steps happen once you've joined.

--- You will need to do steps 4-5 every time you join a meeting ---

STEP FOUR:

Once you're in the meeting, tap on "More" in the bottom left.

STEP FIVE:

Tap on the option to "Enable Original Sound."

This turns off the algorithms that attempt to filter out background noise (Zoom recognizes instruments as background noise, which causes them to get partially filtered out by default).

That's it! Your phone should now be configured for optimal audio quality for live music.

Note:

Enabling "original sound" disables the algorithms that attempt to suppress background noise, so you may want to go back to the "More" menu and click "Disable Original Sound" to toggle it back off before and after you play music, so that during other parts of the meeting there isn't unnecessary background noise coming from your mic.

if you're using the desktop application

(pc/mac)

STEP ONE:

Open the Zoom application, and click on the gear icon in the top right corner.

STEP TWO:

Select "Audio" from the list on the left, then click "Advanced" in the bottom right corner.

STEP THREE:

Enable the setting "Show in-meeting option to 'Enable Original Sound' from microphone."

That's all that needs changed in the settings; the last step is for after you join the meeting.

STEP FOUR:

Once you're in the meeting, you should now see an option in the top left corner to "Turn on Original Sound." Click this to turn it on (it should light up blue and say "Turn off Original Sound").

That's it! Your computer should now be configured for optimal audio quality for live music.

Note:

Enabling "original sound" disables the algorithms that attempt to suppress background noise, so you may want to click "Turn off Original Sound" to toggle it back off before and after you play music, so that during other parts of the meeting there isn't unnecessary background noise coming from your mic.
